• According to UNAIDS, 2.5 million people worldwide were newly infected with HIV in 2007.
• Every day, over 6,800 persons become infected with HIV and over 5,700 persons die from AIDS, mostly because of inadequate access to HIV prevention and treatment services.
• Women account for an estimated 15.4 million of all adults living with HIV worldwide.
• There were an estimated 2.1 million AIDS deaths in 2007. Children under the age of 15 account for 330,000 of these deaths.
